AS BBOG MARCHES TO ASO VILLA
Since the abduction of over 200 school girls from the town of Chibok by the boko haram militants about 24 months ago in the year 2014, there has been a lot of outcry for the girls' release.
The attention gathered by that abduction was so much that some people feel it is unfair to others who have equally been kidnapped by the book Haram militants. When the military was gaining ground against Boko Haram, about a thousand people (excluding the Chibok girls) were rescued. This means that many more persons have been kidnapped.
While the agitation for the release of the girls may have reduced, one group has remained resolute in the struggle, it is the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) cofounded by Oby Ezekwesili and Hadiza Usman.
Hadiza Usman was however appointed by the government as the MD of the Nigerian Ports Authority. Thus, doubt's have been cast as to the non partisan status of the pressure group.
Following the release of a video recently by the Boko Haram militants showing some of those girls still alive, the BBOG decided to stage a protest to the Aso Villa perhaps to remind President Buhari of the need to rescue the girls.
As they march to the Villa, they should agitate not just for the Chibok girls but for every other person who has been kidnapped by the militants, and indeed for an end to the Boko Haram menace.
