TODAY IN HISTORY


On this day in the year 2011,
 Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown
after the National Transitional Council forces took control of his Bab al-Azizia compound in Tripoli during the Libyan Civil War .
The Libyan strongman had ruled for almost 42 years and is the fifth longest ruling non monarch in history. Since his overthrow, Libya has remained in conflict.
