JOHN KERRY'S VISIT AND NIGERIA'S INTEREST
It is no longer news that the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, is visiting Nigeria soon.
According to the US Embassy in Nigeria, the visit is bordering on matters of counter terrorism efforts, the economy the war against corruption and human rights. This is clearly the highest US official to visit Nigeria since the days of former President Olusegun Obasanjo when the then US President, George W. Bush came visiting. This perhaps means that our bilateral ties are improving.
While welcoming Mr. Kerry, we must not forget that the interest he has come to represent is strictly that of his country, that is okay. It behoves on the Nigerian authorities to protect our interest. It was in the year 2014 that the US refused to sell weapons to Nigeria to prosecute the war on terror, reason being that they felt the weapons would be used to violate human rights. Now John Kerry is here to discuss counter terrorism efforts. It is curious.
May the best be for Nigeria
