UNCERTAINTY OVER ADMISSION INTO TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS; JAMB MEETS
The Federal Government some months back stopped the conduct of the Post UTME screening exercise which was used as a process for admitting students into tertiary institutions. For long, applicants were left in abeyance as to when a new screening exercise would be conducted since schools put on hold their admission process.
Reprieve came when the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) gave conditional admission to applicants. At least, some schools may have used that admission to admit students. In an unfortunate turn of events, on the 31st of August, JAMB withdrew the admission it had earlier granted in order for the Universities' Senate to conduct their own admission exercise. This threw applicants in yet another state of confusion. Unsurprisingly, soon after, the then JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde was relieved of his duties.
Hope may finally have come as today, it was announced that JAMB was going to hold its next technical meeting from August 22 to August 26 in order to resolve the current admission gridlock. Let us hope that very soon, our "Jambites" will have their uncertainty settled.
