THOUGHTS ON THE US ELECTION

Clearly, the interest in the US Presidential election within America and around the world is keen.

One reason for this, undoubtedly, is that the US is the world power, so whatever affects them (including whoever becomes the President) affects the world. Another glaring but yet unnoticed reason for this interest is the kind of candidates that have emerged, particularly from the major parties. Many feel that the current candidates do not measure up to standard, so its a matter of choosing the lesser evil. A good number of this kind of people believe that the lesser evil is the candidate of the Democratic party, Hilary Clinton, who has been engrossed in scandals while she was the Secretary of State. My wonder is that she resigned from the abovementioned position on health grounds, why does she feel she is capable of handling a tougher post- the Presidency? Perhaps her health issues have been settled.
The "greater evil", on the other hand, seems to be the candidate of the Republican party, Donald Trump. He does not have any scandalous past per se. Though he once sued a news outfit for erroneously calling him a millionaire when actually he was a billionaire. However, his greatest undoing has been his uncontrolled verbal epilepsy. He is very offensive with words and speaks without tact. His blunders are so many, including, insulting Muslims, insulting Black Americans, threatening to deport all illegal migrants and threatening to build a wall around the US border with Mexico. He doesn't spare even his party members from his verbal assaults.
The pendulum has swing in favour of Clinton. Trump's followers keep depleting by the day. Even his fellow Republicans are dumping him like Speaker Paul Ryan. Others have gone a step further by openly declaring their support for Clinton. Just today, Trump's campaign manager, Paul Manafort, has resigned from the post. I don't think it is unconnected with the declining support for Trump. It will be interesting to see how subsequent events play out.
