ON THE NIGERIAN ARMY'S RECENT FEATS AGAINST BOKO HARAM

The Boko Haram militants who have wreaked havoc on the Nigerian state since 2009 appear to be losing its potency.

Over the past months, the media has been agog with reports of the Nigerian military's successes against the sect. Even if one wouldn't have wanted to believe it, the fact that the spate of attacks by the sect has reduced and is less talked about leaves one with no other choice. More areas have been recovered.
Just recently, we heard that over 8000 Boko Haram members have so far surrendered. It was also announced that the air force had killed several leaders of the Boko Haram sect in an air raid on Sambisa forest on Friday. On that night, at least 300 members were said to have been killed. This recent feat brings good news. We hope for more of it and an eventual end of terrorism. We also hope for the safe return of the Chibok girls and all other Boko Haram captives.
