KASHIM SHETTIMA AND BBOG

The drama behind the rift between the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group and the APC led federal government over the missing Chibok girls appears to be far from over as the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, lashed out at the BBOG group for protesting at the Presidential Villa when they have never visited Chibok community to sympathize with the parents.
According to him:
"Just last week, we expended a whooping sum of N25 million first tranche for the education of the 56 Chibok school girls that escaped from the crunches of Boko Haram and none of the members of BBOG has visited Chibok to know about the feelings of the parents of the girls. They do not know what our people are going through. It is easy to talk but it is very difficult to work the talk. They can make a whole lot of noise from the cozy comfort of Abuja, they can dramatize the whole thing. Some of them are former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and they know the protocol to follow before seeing the President, but they just wanted to create some drama".
He may seem to have a point, but he forgets something. The BBOG has physically met with a lot of the parents of the abducted girls (although in Abuja) and sympathized with them. They (BBOG) have even marched to the Presidential villa in company of some parents. To me, that is enough sympathy. The fact that BBOG has not traveled to Borno state does not mean that they don't care about the parents of the girls. The bottom line is that both parties met. That is what matters. After all (and sadly too), the activism of BBOG is not necessarily for all terror victims, it is for the abducted girls. So they really don't need to go to Chibok if they can meet the parents of the girls in Abuja.
The governor also said that BBOG is making "noise" from the "cozy comfort" of Abuja. Really? These people sit in the open at Unity fountain. They march to the villa under the hot sun too. How can that be cozy comfort? Governor Shettima is trying to portray BBOG as a group that is not making any sacrifice at all. That cannot be true. That statement is obviously political because President Buhari is from his party.
While I'm not trying to support BBOG, it is important that when we make statements, we should make cogent points.
