On this day in the year 2001,

Al-Qaeda carried out a series of coordinated attacks on the world trade center, the Pentagon and an open field, killing about 2996 people. It is the worst terrorist attack in history. Since then, the US launched a war against terror which has decimated the terrorist group and eventually killed its leader, Osama bin laden almost 10 years later in 2011.

On this day in the year 2012, The U.S. embassy in Benghazi , Libya was attacked , resulting in four deaths, including the then US Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens.
